Our little girl has arrived and she is just as precious as can be! Her birth story is short and sweet which is much different than her brother's story - except for the sweet part.
Emmaline Grace was born 9 days past her due date and let me tell you those 9 days felt like an eternity!! I felt HUGE and completely ungraceful and unladylike. It was a rough last few weeks.
The Sunday before she was born was a pretty normal day. That night however the contractions picked up and I thought for sure she was coming so we called the midwives and they made their way to our house - we had decided to do a home birth. Unfortunately the contractions died out around 3 am even though I was dilated to 3 cm. We all went to bed and struggled through the next day with little sleep. I kept thinking contractions were going to pick up again, but they didn't until Tuesday and I was very grateful for the extra sleep! I was getting contractions all day Tuesday, and sometimes they were pretty close together, but they didn't stay that way however they were getting more intense. About 4:30 they were getting really intense and I decided I had better call Stephen. He got home about 30 minutes later to find me keeled over on the couch crying in pain with Gus watching and very concerned for me.
Stephen immediately called Nanna to have her come take Gus to her house and then called the midwives. Nanna and Pappa left with Gus around 6 pm and I got into the inflated tub (we had decided to do another water birth). Like a true saint, Stephen got into the tub with me and pushed on my back every time I had a contraction because I was having back labor. The midwives got to our house around 7 and 7:30. They ran around like crazy getting everything ready and monitoring baby's heart and my blood pressure. Everything was going nicely and Emmaline was born at 7:52 pm. Can you believe it! The midwives almost missed her birth!! Yikes!
I was so grateful to have such a smooth delivery! God answered all my prayers in that regard. The healing process has been much quicker than with Gus for which I am extremely grateful - especially because this time I'm chasing a toddler around the house as well.
I used Gentle Birth Care for my pregnancy and delivery care and I can't speak highly enough about them! They were absolutely wonderful to work with!
